Viewers in the Republic of Ireland are also able to catch up with episodes on the RTÉ Player. It was the most watched program of 2014 on the RTÉ Player with over four million viewers. As of 2014, the show is available to view in Northern Ireland on 5STAR daily at 3.30pm and 6.30pm as well as the regular Channel Five airings. The show is however blocked in Northern Ireland via the SKY platform on both RTE1 and RTE2, yet it remains available on Irish platform Saorview for both Irish and Northern Irish viewers.
She also stated that Hannah would "fight fiercely for her family", but she has a fear of being alone and needs to be loved. Hannah comes to Summer Bay to ask Zac MacGuire for his help, when she believes their niece and nephew are being brainwashed by a cult that Zac's brother, Ethan , has got them involved in. Howarth called the storyline "hard-hitting" and added that it was not a smooth transition to life in the Bay.

She has been separated from Romeo for a few years and comes to the Bay to find him. Catherine Woulfe from Stuff.co.nz called Mink "mysterious" and a "stroppy surf chick". She added "Mink's hot, with plenty of sass and street smarts, and maybe even a soft heart under her bad-girl exterior." Mink unexpectedly returns to the Bay a year later and asks Romeo for money.

When Dexter becomes defensive, Mitzy kisses him to show him that it is not okay to push himself onto other people. Marilyn becomes upset with Mitzy and she feels bad for affecting her friend's relationship. Mitzy tells Marilyn that her end date is only a couple of months away, leaving her devastated. Talking to TV Week's Carolyn Stewart, Johnson described Paulie as being the "starry-eyed dreamer in the family". His ideas have often led him into trouble and he acts before he thinks. The actor continued "Ever since they were kids, Paulie's done crazy things - and Angelo has had to bail him out." Angelo is "less than thrilled" to see his brother, especially when he tries to charm his girlfriend, Charlie Buckton .

Kilkelly revealed "In the aftermath of his disappearance, it will be unclear whether Penn left town of his own accord or whether there is a more sinister explanation." Meagher thought Alf would become "a likely suspect" if anything happened to Penn. Nicole, John Palmer , Miles Copeland , Marilyn Chambers and Sid Walker were also named as suspects. He refuses to see her after having the latest letter he sent her returned to him unopened.
However, Mitzy's "gloomy predictions" do not go down well with Sid Walker . On her death bed she tells Marilyn that she made up her end date prediction, however she tells Sid the exact opposite. When he arrives in Summer Bay, Paulie is mistaken for a food critic by Irene Roberts and Colleen Smart .
Upcoming and returning characters
Snow called his character a "troubled kid", who does not where he fits in. The actor added "He is a bit confused about life and definitely ruffles people's feathers in the Bay." Jade Montgomery, played by Tasma Walton, made her first screen appearance on 16 October 2013. The character and Walton's casting was announced on 27 July 2013. Walton previously appeared in Home and Away as Rachel Watson in 1995. The actress accepted the offer to appear in the show again as it coincided with the premiere of a film that she features in, which was shown at the Sydney Film Festival.
The reporter described Penn as "a mysterious stranger who comes to town and sets hearts aflutter from the second he arrives." The reporter revealed that Clark was booked on a flight to Los Angeles when he was offered the role of Penn. After reading the scripts, he realised he wanted to take on the part and he cancelled his plans to leave the country. Clark stated "Penn is the epitome of cool - he says and does things I wish I could in real life. Full credit to the writers and producers for creating such a great dynamic character...I just hope I can do him justice." Phoebe Nicholson, played by Isabella Giovinazzo, made her first screen appearance on 26 November 2013. After relocating to Sydney in mid-2013, Giovinazzo successfully auditioned for the role of Phoebe.

He later works off his debt and tells Roo that his parents are dead. Spencer and Maddy spend the night on a boat, before moving to the local high school. When they learn that Roo knows they are staying at the school, Spencer and Maddy initially disagree about contacting her. She and Harvey bring them back to Summer Bay House for the night. Spencer and Maddy later run away, but struggle out in the bush.

The Summer Bay House is the only house to still be seen on screen since the pilot episode. S official Australian Facebook page reached one million likes, becoming the first Australian television show to reach this milestone. The Facebook page was established in November 2009 and is followed by fans mostly in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom.
Rosie refuses to let Sasha stay over her house and pays Tilda Hogan to pretend to be her younger sister Hannah. Sasha discovers Tilda's real identity from Jett James and she follows Rosie home, when she confronts her, Rosie reveals that her mum left her when she was young and her dad splits his time between her and his second family in the city, and Rosie lives on her own. She decides to run into the sea, despite not being able to swim well and Sasha has to run in and save her. However, both girls get caught in a rip and have to be saved by Casey and John Palmer .

In 2010, Georgie Parker joined the cast of Home and Away as Alf's daughter Roo Stewart, originally played by Justine Clarke in 1988–89. Alf and Roo are currently the only two original characters in the series. Aside from New South Wales, Home and Away has also filmed scenes in other states of Australia. In May 2012, the show filmed scenes at Flinders Ranges and Nilpena Station in South Australia for a storyline in which Casey Braxton was kidnapped and taken to the outback by Kyle Braxton . The following month, Home and Away filmed scenes in Melbourne for the second time. In November 2014, the show filmed an episode at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra with several cast members, as a tribute to the Anzac Centenary.
Pippa Doyle of 96FM reported that declining ratings in 2018 and Seven's decision to push the show back had created doubt about its future on the network, and whether or not a timeslot change or a move to a multichannel was likely. The season returned to a series low of 620,000 viewers and ranked 13th for the night. The following night, the viewing figure fell to 581,000 and the show ranked 10th for the night. The first triple bill on 21 February pulled in 577,000 viewers and ranked 8th for the evening. The ratings for the triple bill episodes continued to fall from 524,000 to 414,000 viewers, and on 28 March 2019, the triple bill pulled in a series low of 383,000 viewers and ranked 14th for the night.
